The Reward of the Unjust
| James |
James 5:6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
James comments on how it seems that the Lord does not resist as the rich consume the just. Remember, in James’ society, there was no middle class. There were only the extremely rich and the extremely poor. The rich thrived on the backs of the poor. It would seem to be unjust, yet we know God is just. How can this be? How can it be that some seem to not only get away with their sin, but flourish in it? We know God is just. Everyone’s reward awaits them in eternity. Here on earth, it may seem unjust that the rich flourish. In eternity, the wealth of the rich will be consumed by fire and destroyed. Then it would seem equal. However, those who have trusted God will receive a reward of an eternity in the presence of God as a joint-heir with Christ. Those who reject Christ will have an eternity of being continually destroyed. God does not resist the rich here on earth because he knows their end.
